WHY I CHOSE THE FOX
I was born in Northern Minnesota on one of the coldest nights on record. My mother said it was a night when the Northern Lights were exceptionally bright and colorful. No surprise then, that as a child, the Nordic Fables fascinate me, especially the ones about the northern lights. I love the story of how Fox creates the Northern Lights by brushing the snowy countryside with his magnificent tail causing the sparks from this activity to dance in the crisp air and create the beautiful colors of the Aurora Borealis.
As an adult, our vacation home in California is near an Indian Reservation. I am honored with an invitation to attend a Pautite meditation to find our totem animals.
To my surprise and chagrin, the animal that comes to me in meditation is not the serene and knowledgeable Fox I desire, but Walt Disney's little Fox from The Fox and the Hound. Try as I may, I cannot conjure up a significantly more acceptable and mature version of the Fox. I continued the meditation with a charming little red and white creature dancing around me.
The visit from the little red Fox exemplifies humor, creativity, and happiness in my life. Values I treasure, and it guides me in thinking outside the box, solving problems, and finding my way around obstacles such as thinking outside the box, solving problems, and finding my way around obstacles.
As time passed and my hair turned grey and white, I began to see changes in my totem animal. In meditation, the guidance from the Fox emphasized knowledge, wisdom, and strength. All important in my desire to become a wise woman. And yes, over time, as expected, the coat of my totem animal has gone from Disney red to a resplendent silver.
